Parkdale Wedding

Parkdale is my old home. It was a dream shooting a wedding there. Jackie and Lew live and work there. Both of them are in the service industry. They accomodate people’s needs and plan events for a living. No wonder they wanted their wedding to be simple, fun and a reflection of their lives.

I met up with them at Bar Isabelle. Dimly lit and a kind of cavernous feeling, it was the perfect place to share plates with family before the ceremony. Lew was in full sommelier mode… pairing and pouring wines for the mediterranean feast in front of us. Their families had travelled from the UK and Australia, so documenting an intimate meal before joining the larger group of friends was so refreshing.

We hurried to their friends apartment to switch from wedding onesie to wedding dress. But guys… HER DRESS. Jackie channeled Diana Ross. The sleeves and the sequins were a disco dream!

We hopped in a cab again to head to their own backyard patio for the ceremony. Friends had painstakingly decorated and laid out the most beautiful food spread my eyes have ever seen. Cheese Boutique everything, a cocktail fountain, oysters and the party favours were joints (appropriate considering the amount of cheese and meat).

After the ceremony, the eating and the drinking… Lew sabred a bottle of champagne instead of cutting a cake. I died inside because their wedding became perfect and how will I ever enjoy work this much ever again?

Our last stop was Parkdale ‘s Bar Mahjong, just around the corner from their house. It’s another dimly lit but less cavernous bar. The perfect place to make the surreal celebration of getting married feel normal.

Here’s another downtown wedding that will always have my heart. Rachel and Rob’s wedding was my first solo gig AND they’re old buds. Same vibe as this one… also with an insane dress.
